The Towai Cup remains in the hands of Whangarei Bridge Club. Two teams in each grade of Junior, Intermediate and Open took part in the local challenge match against Kerikeri. The junior and intermediate teams romped home easily, whilst the Opens managed a smaller win to make it a clean sweep for Whangarei.
Congratulation to our players who have qualified to represent the Northland Auckland Region in the national finals in November. Kevin Grundy and Kim Thomas finished top (by some margin) in the intermediate section. Alan Pumfleet and Juliet Golightly held their nerve to clinch second place and the last automatic qualifying place. Jane Stearns qualified for the Women's team with Chery Winsor from the Howick Club.
Join the afternoon event for Charity on Monday 25 April - $10 entry fee - come with a partner, no registration needed.
11 teams have entered and we need one more entry to secure the 12 necessary to go ahead with the tournament. If you have not already put your entry in - don't delay! Whangarei members are asked to help with providing morning tea for our guests. Everyone taking part will have shown their vaccine pass and face masks will be mandatory apart from when eating and drinking. Enter online at nzbridge.co.nz

Congratulations to Kevin and Kim who stormed the National Congress intermediate pairs field to reach a Top 10 finish. A stunning second session saw them top of the field and just missing a podium spot in a very close contest.
X Club deals are played on Monday nights at the club. The same deals are played by many other clubs across NZ. Three pairs from Whangarei finsihed in the Top 10 this week - congratulations to Alan Pumfleet and Juliet Golightly (4th), Carlene Mason and Jane Stearns (6th) and Renate Tolks and one of our newest members, Chris Tobin (10th).
